The CCHCR1 gene (CCHCR1 stands for: Coiled-Coil Alpha-Helical Rod Protein 1) is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 6p21.33. This gene encodes a protein with five coiled-coil alpha-helical rod domains, which is thought to act as a regulator of mRNA metabolism through its interaction with mRNA decapping protein 4. The encoded protein may be a regulator of keratinocyte proliferation or differentiation.
The protein is localized in P-bodies, the site of mRNA metabolism, with an N-terminus required for this subcellular localization, suggesting that it is a P-body component.
Linkage and association analyses in different psoriasis populations detected 2 highly susceptible polymorphisms in the CCHCR1 and HLA-C genes, which remain to be validated in future studies (Gandhi G et al 2011).
