ASIA is the acronym for "autoimmune syndrome induced by adjuvant". ASIA is used synonymously with the acronym"AEFI" (adverse events following immunization). In adults, these adverse drug reactions (ADRs) primarily relate to the influenza vaccination. Comparable autoimmunological disorders have also occurred after COVID immunizations.
A special form of these acquired autoimmunological syndromes has also been described as "gulf war syndrome".
