Spiethoff, bodo

(¤ 1875, † 1948) Dermatologist, working in Jena, Leipzig Dermatological training in Jena. Spiethoff headed the Jena Dermatological Clinic for 20 years from 1914 to 1934. In 1934, Spiethoff, who had been registered as a NSDAP party member since 1931 but was scientifically completely insignificant, surprisingly received a call to the Leipzig University Dermatological Clinic, the largest dermatological clinic at that time. This call came about due to an intervention by the "Reichsärzteführer" Gerhard Wagner. Spiethoff was a member of an expert commission for population and race policy in the Reich Ministry of the Interior. He also became Reich Commissioner and chairman of the German Society for the Fight against Sexually Transmitted Diseases. This although a board of directors had been elected only 1 year earlier. The two Jewish dermatologists Joseph Jadassohn and Felix Pinkus as well as Leo v. Zumbusch belonged to this board. Here he formulated unequivocally: "The state born out of the national revolution is aware that not only hygienic, but also important national and ethical concerns are connected with the fight against venereal diseases. His successor in Jena was Walter Schultze.
