DefinitionThis section has been translated automatically.

Benign adnexal tumor with differentiation of sebaceous glands.

LocalizationThis section has been translated automatically.

Localized mainly on the face, but also in the area of the eyelids, capillitium and neck, rarely on the upper trunk. Rarely also in the area of the oral mucosa.

Clinical featuresThis section has been translated automatically.

Mostly solitary, soft, easily distinguishable, skin-coloured or slightly yellowish papules/nodes of 0.5 (maximum) 2.0 cm diameter. The clinical findings are otherwise uncharacteristic. Only the slightly yellowish colour may indicate sebaceous differentiation. In this respect the diagnosis is made histologically.

Notice! Multiple sebaceous gland adenomas in combination with carcinomas of the internal organs are suspected of Muir-Torre syndrome.

HistologyThis section has been translated automatically.

Well defined, lobar adenoma in the upper and middle dermis with recognizable differentiation of sebocytes. In addition to sebocytes there are basaloid, basophilic seboblastic cells. The seboblasts condense at the periphery of the lobules to form a multilayer strip. There is extensive contact with the surface epithelium.

TherapyThis section has been translated automatically.

Excision if cosmetically disturbing.
