(¤ 7.2.1923, † 24.10.2012) Urs Schnyder was born in 1923 into a long-established Swiss family of doctors and grew up in Solothurn. He studied medicine in Bern, Geneva and Zurich. 3 years of further training at the pathological institutes in Geneva and Zurich. Specialist training in Zurich. 1961 Habilitation in Zurich. 1964 appointment as assistant professor. 1965 appointment as full professor at the University Dermatology Clinic Heidelberg. He worked there for 13 years. In 1978 he was appointed to the University Dermatology Clinic in Zurich, which he headed until his retirement in 1991.

His scientific interest was in the morphology and histopathology of the skin. He gained high recognition as a specialist for cornification disorders and epidermolysis. His scientific oevre amounts to more than 400 papers.
