First dermatological training with Alois Memmesheimer at the then Municipal Dermatology Clinic in Essen. 1934-1935 Assistant doctor with Paul Linser at the University Dermatology Clinic in Tübingen. 1935-1945 senior physician with Heinrich Löhe at the Rudolf Virchow Hospital Berlin. After the post-war years, he settled down as a specialist in Stuttgart, became temporary head of the skin department at the Ludwigsburg hospital, head physician at the Dermatology Clinic Ludwigshafen and then head physician at the Dermatology Clinic Mannheim. In 1966, he received a lectureship in dermatology and venerology. When the "Faculty of Clinical Medicine" was founded in Mannheim in 1968, he was offered the chair in his field. Field(s) of research: Allergology, occupational dermatology and expert opinions. Schmidt was a pioneer of specific immunotherapy of allergic diseases.
