  • (¤ 24.11.1864, † 1938) Dermatologist, working in Paris. Sabouraud was born in Nantes, the son of a painter. Studied in Nantes, later in Paris. Since 1887 assistant at the Hôpital Cochin in Paris, where he completed his first microbiological studies under Georges Saintford Octave Dujardin-Beaumetz (1833-1895). In 1889, while still a student, he began his dermatological training under Jean Baptiste Emile Vidal (1825-1893) and Ernest Henri Besnier (1831-1909) at the Hôpital St. Louis, Paris. He was licensed to practice medicine in 1890. 1891 he took up an assistant position at the Hôpital Saint Antoine. Guided by Pierre-Paul-Émile Roux (1853-1933), he founded his own microbiological institute. In 1894 he received his doctorate. Sabouraud was an internationally recognised mycologist and dermatologist. Sabouraud acquired exceptional dermatological reputations in the field of capillary diseases.
