Armand Quick (1894-1978) and Paul A. Owren independently discovered Factor V. Armand Quick studied chemistry in Wisconsin and later medicine at Cornell University. He first had a private practice in Milwaukee and in 1944 became Professor of Biochemistry at Marquette University. His research included the development of coagulation tests, the analysis of vitamin K-dependent factors, etc. For medicine, Quick became immortalized by the test he developed in 1935 to determine the thromboplastin time.
