For decades, phenol was an active ingredient in a number of dermatological drugs (ready-to-use preparations) and magistral formulations. For example, it was a component of the Solutio Castellani listed in the German Prescription Formulary (DRF). Due to an unfavorable benefit-risk assessment, it is no longer listed there(negative monograph!). Phenolum liquefactum is no longer prescribable.
