Faecal-oral intake of amoeba cysts with contaminated food; release of smaller, vegetative forms, so-called minuta forms (trophozoites) from cysts in the intestine. Trophozoites multiply by bifurcation and form cysts which are excreted with the stool in a mature, quadrenuclear state.
