(¤ 26.9.1862, † 1933) Dermatologist. Ernst Kromayer was born in Stralsund to a grammar school principal. 1880 A-levels in Weissenburg, Alsace. Medical studies in Strasbourg, Würzburg and Bonn. 1885 state examination. 1888 began dermatological training with Albert Neisser in Breslau. 1890 habilitation. 1900 foundation of a private practice in Halle/Saale. 1901 appointed titular professor in Halle; 1906 moved to Berlin; founded a dermatological clinic there and became its head physician. In the same year he received a patent for a UV lamp, a high-pressure mercury lamp with water cooling, which was given his name (Kromeyer lamp). Kromayer also constructed cutting round knives for the removal of small skin tumours, as well as diathermy needles for epilation.
