EtiopathogenesisThis section has been translated automatically.

Probably in apoptotic keratinocytes the alpha-helix structure of the keratins is transformed into a ß-leaf structure. These proteins cannot be cleared by macrophages and remain in the papillary dermis as keratinamyloid (detected by antibodies against keratin filaments). This explains the "high" dermal position of the amyloid deposits in the skin.
