(¤ 21.6.40, † 1910) American dermatologist. James Nevin Hyde was born in Norwich, Connecticut. In 1861 he studied medicine at the College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York. In 1869 he graduated in medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1873 Hyde opened a clinic for skin diseases at Rush Medical College. 1879 appointed Professor of Dermatology. Field(s) of Research: Infectiology; Photobiology. Today, the name Hyde is associated with Prurigo nodularis. However, the first description of the disease pattern was made as early as 1879 by William Augustus Hardaway, who, like Hyde, was a founding member of the American Dermatological Association.
