(¤ 1891, † 1976) British dermatologist. Dowling was born on 9.8.1891 in Cape Town, South Africa. Since 1911 medical studies in London. 1920 state examination. 1922 doctorate. Dermatological training at Guy`s Hospital and St. Johns Hospital for Diseases of the Skin in London. 1932 Senior Dermatologist at St. Johns Hospital for Diseases of the Skin. 1951 he became director of this institute. His students included Arthur Rook, Douglas Sweet and Darrel Wilkinson. His outstanding scientific achievements relate to Dowling Syndrome (congenital poikiloderma), Dowling-Meara type epidermolysis bullosa herpetiformis, phototherapy and contact allergy. Dowling died on 1.6. 1976 as a result of colon carcinoma.
