According to the guidelines of 22.01.2004 (chronicle regulation), a serious chronic illness is considered to be:
  • The patient is under permanent medical treatment. He has been treated for the same illness at least once every quarter for at least one year and there is a need for long-term care at care level 2 or 3 in accordance with the second chapter of SGB XI.
  • Or: There is a degree of disability (GdB) of at least 60% according to § 30 BVG or a reduction in earning capacity (MDE) of at least 60% according to § 56 paragraph 2 SGB VII.
  • Or: Continuous medical care (medical or psychotherapeutic treatment, drug therapy, supply of remedies and aids) is required without which, according to medical assessment, a life-threatening aggravation, a reduction in life expectancy or a permanent impairment of the quality of life is to be expected due to the health disorder caused by the serious chronic illness according to sentence 1.
