Outdated surgical method for the treatment of varicose veins. The acronym "CHIVA" stands for:"Cure Conservatrice et Hémodynamique de l'Insuffisance Veineuse en Ambulatoire". According to the CHIVA method, only the lateral branches of the saphenous vein are ligated. The truncal veins (e.g. the vena saphena magna) with their defective venous valves are not removed. The CHIVA method is largely replaced by the endovenous treatment of the truncal vein with radiofrequency energy or laser.
