The ATF gene encodes the ATF1 protein, an activating transcription factor belonging to the ATF subfamily. The ATF1 gene influences physiological cellular processes that affect essential cell functions such as growth, survival, etc. Fusion of ATF1 with FUS (chromosome 16) or translocation with the EWSR1 gene (located on chromosome 22) can be detected in angiomatous fibrous histiocytoma as well as in cutaneous clear cell sarcoma.
