Pyranoses are lactols of monosaccharides which contain a six-membered ring consisting of five carbon and one oxygen atom and a hydroxy group on one of the carbon atoms which bind the ring-forming oxygen.
In certain monosaccharides, the ring is formed by hemiacetal formation between a carbonyl group and an OH group. This hemiacetal form is called glucopyranose in glucose.
