Polymeric alcohol (monomer: -CH2-CH(OH)- ) which is available in different degrees of polymerization (Mr: 15.000-150.000) Polyvinyl alcohol is produced by hydrolysis from polyvinyl acetate. Depending on the degree of polymerization, different viscosities of the polymers result. Polyvinyl alcohol is a well-tolerated substance which is used both medically (e.g. in eye drops) and cosmetically (emulsifier, film former, emulsion stabilizer).
