Polysilicones, also known as polysiloxanes, are silicon compounds in which the silicon atoms are linked together by oxygen bridges: -Si-O-Si-. Polysiloxanes, mostly polydimethylsiloxanes, are used in cleaning agents, cosmetics, deodorants, soaps and detergents. The number after the name defines the degree of polymerization of the substance.
Polysilcone-7 is used in cosmetic formulations. The substance acts as an antifoam agent (suppresses foaming during the manufacture of cosmetic products), antistatic agent (reduces static charges by neutralizing the electrical charge on the surface, for example of hair) and as a combability aid (reduces or prevents tangling of the hair due to changes or damage on the hair surface, thus improving combability).
