Pinus palustris oil is the name of the essential oil from "Pinus palustris" of the marsh pine (Longleaf Pine; Pitch-pine), a conifer of the pine family, which is native to the south-eastern USA. Pinus palustris oil is extracted from the needles of the marsh pine by steam distillation. The oil is used in cosmetic formulations. The pine oil has a masking effect (reduces or inhibits an undesirable inherent odour of the product) and a perfuming effect (improves the smell of a product and/or perfumes the skin).
