Malonic acid, also called malonic acid (from Latin malum = apple) is a saturated dicarboxylic acid with the molecular formula C3H4O4 or the linear formula HOOC-CH2-COOH which is used in cosmetic formulations. The dicarboxylic acid acts as buffer substance.

Malonic acid is naturally found in sugar beet juice. The dicarboxylic acid occurs as oxidation product of malic acid.

Note(s)This section has been translated automatically.

The salts/esters of malonic acid are called malonates. Malonic acid blocks the course of the citrate cycle by inhibiting the succinate dehydrogenase.
