Isononanoic acid is a colourless liquid with a faint odour and the molecular formula: C9H18O2

The acid is hardly soluble in water, but miscible with most organic solvents. It usually occurs as an isomeric mixture of branched chain carboxylic acids with 9 carbon atoms (called isonononanoic acid). Different esters of the isononanoic acid are used in cosmetic formulations as skin care products, e.g. isononyl isononanoates (INCI) - esters of isononanol with the isononanoic acid.
