Hydrogenated starch hydrolysates (HSHs) consist of a mixture of different sugar alcohols. The hydrolysates are obtained by partial hydrolysis of starch (from corn, potatoes or wheat). HSHs consist of a mixture of sorbitol and longer-chain hydrogenated saccharides. HSHs are used in cosmetic formulations and act as moisturizers (preserves the moisture of the skin).
