Galactoarabinan is a highly branched polysaccharide consisting of a galactan main chain with side chains of galactose and arabinose. Arabinogalactan is found in plants and mycobacteria, including gum arabic.

The microbial galactoarabinan is a main component of the mycobacterial cell wall. Here the substance is mostly bound to glycoproteins.

In cosmetic formulations galactoarabinan is used as film former. The substance forms a film on skin, hair or nails when applied.
