Caramel, also known as caramel or caramelised sugar, is a brown dye used in cosmetic products. The basic conditions for colourings which may be used in cosmetics are laid down in the EC Cosmetics Regulation (1223/2009) Annex IV.

Furthermore, caramel is also listed as a food colorant under the numbers E150a, E 150b, E150d.
