Macrogol-4-lauryl ether chemically represents an ethoylated laquryl alcohol. The colourless and odourless liquid is well tolerated by the skin. It belongs to the group of tensides and is added as emulsifier e.g. to bath oils. Macrogol-4-laurylether is well miscible with oils and soluble in alcohol.
Macrogol-4-laurylether is used in NRF regulation 11.140. to facilitate the washing off of the oil or the washing out of the hair. This can be achieved with lukewarm water, possibly using a mild shampoo. Macrogol-4-lauryl ether is often used in combination with octyldodecanol.
