Nisin. Nisin is an antibiotically active substance which is biotechnologically extracted from Streptococcus lactis cultures. Nisin is authorised in the European Union as a food additive. Nisin is mainly used as a conversifier in dairy products (various types of cheese, mascarpone). Nisin is not used as a medicine. The substance is considered harmless.
Nisin is used in cosmetic formulations under the INCI designation "Nisin".
