Minus variant of atopic eczema in adults. Dyshidrotic skin lesions on the backs of hands and fingers, less frequently on the palms.

The clinical picture of atopic hand dermatitis (syn.: atopic hand eczema) depends decisively on the degree of acuteity of the inflammatory reaction; the same applies to atopic foot dermatitis (syn.: atopic foot eczema). This ranges from minimal variants to weeping or pyodermatized maximum variants. On the basis of an atopic diathesis or latent atopic hand (foot) dermatitis, superimposed external influences (cumulative toxic damage or contact sensitization) can lead to severe hand (foot) dermatitis that significantly impairs daily activities.

Minus variants of hand (foot) dermatitis are:

• Dyshidrosis lamellosa sicca (hands and feet, hands preferred)
• Mild dyshidrotic hand (foot) eczema
• Atopic winter feet (atopic winter hands)
• Pulpitis sicca

Classic (fully developed acute, subacute or chronic) clinical variants are:

• Fully developed dyshidrotic hand (foot) dermatitis
• Cheiro/podopompholyx (acute maximum variant of dyshidrotic hand (foot) dermatitis)
• Cumulative toxic hand (foot) dermatitis on the basis of atopic dermatitis
• Hyperkeratotic-rhagadiform hand (foot) dermatitis on the basis of atopic dermatitis
• Contact allergic hand (foot) dermatitis due to atopic dermatitis
