Definition

KRT14 (Keratin 14) ist ein Protein kodierendes Gen das auf Chromosom 17q21.2 lokalisiert ist.Dieses Gen kodiert ein Mitglied der Keratinfamilie, der vielfältigsten Gruppe von Intermediärfilamenten. Das kodierte Protein, ein Typ-I-Keratin, liegt normalerweise als Heterotetramer mit zwei Keratin-5-Molekülen und einem Typ-II-Keratin vor. Zusammen bilden sie das Zytoskelett der Epithelzellen. Mindestens ein Pseudogen wurde bei 17p12-p11 identifiziert. Mutationen in den Genen für diese Keratine werden mit folgenden Erkrankungen in Verbindung gebracht.

Beim  Bronchialkarzinom kann eine hohe Expression von Keratin 14 mit nodaler Metastasierung und schlechter Überlebensrate assoziiert sein.
