Das STXBP2-Gen (STXBP2 steht für „Syntaxin Binding Protein 2 ist ein Protein kodierendes Gen, das auf Chromosom 19p13.2 lokalisiert ist. Für dieses Gen wurden alternativ gespleißte Transkriptvarianten festgestellt, die verschiedene Isoformen kodieren. 

Allgemeine Information

Das STXBP2-Gen kodiert ein Mitglied der STXBP/unc-18/SEC1-Familie. Das kodierte Protein, das Syntaxin Binding Protein 2, ist am intrazellulären Transport, an der Kontrolle der SNARE-Komplexbildung (soluble NSF attachment protein receptor) und an der Freisetzung zytotoxischer Granula durch natürliche Killerzellen beteiligt. E trägt so zu der Maschinerie der Granulusexozytose durch Interaktion mit SNARE-Proteinen bei. Diese regulieren die Membranfusion. Weiterhin reguliert STXBP2 die Exozytose zytotoxischer Granula in natürlichen Killerzellen.

Mutationen in diesem Gen werden mit der familiären hämophagozytischen Lymphohistiozytose 5 in Verbindung gebracht.
