Definition

Spatacsin ist das Akronym für “spasticity with thin or atrophied corpus callosum syndrome protein” und bezeichnet ein Protein das 2443 Aminosäuren enthält und im Organismus ubiquitär nachweisbar ist. Die höchste Expressionen finden sich in der Leber, gefolgt von Gehirn und Ovar (Stevanin et al. 2007). Spatacsin wird von dem SPG11-Gen kodiert. Das Gen wird ubiquitär im Nervensystem exprimiert, aber am prominentesten im Kleinhirn, der Großhirnrinde, dem Hippocampus und der Epiphyse.
