Definition

Die Leukotrien C4-Synthase ist ein Enzym das beim Menschen durch das LTC4S Gen auf Chromosom 5q35 kodiert wird. 
Das von diesem Gen kodierten Protein, ist ein Enzym das (selektiv) Leukotrien A4 und Glutathion enzymatisch zu Leukotrien C4 konjugiert.   

Das Enzym wird durch eine limitierte Anzahl von Zellen exprimiert, so durch eosinophile Granulozyten, Mastzellen, basophile Granulozyten und Monozyten/Makrophagen.   Verschiedene Leukämiezell-Linien wie KG-1 Zellen und THP-1 Zellen können dieses Enzym produzieren. 
Weiterhin ist die Leukotrien C4-Synthase in Thrombozyten nachweisbar.
