Definition

Interleukin 14, auch als Alpha-taxilin in neueren wissenschafltichen Publikationen bezeichnet, ist ein Protein das durch das TXLNA Gen auf Chromosom 1 kodiert wird.

Interleukin-14 ist ein Zytokin, das das Wachstum und die Proliferation sowohl von normalen wie auch neoplastischen B-Zellen beeinflusst (s.a. das Synonym „High molecular weight B-cell growth factor“).

Das Zytokin wird von aktivierten T- und malignen B-Lymphozyten gebildet. Der Interleukin-14-Rezeptor wird nur auf aktivierten, nicht jedoch auf ruhenden B-Lymphozyten exprimiert.

Interleukin 14 induziert die Proliferation versch. Subpopulationen von B-Lymphozyten und inhibiert die Freisetzung von Immunglobulinen.
