Definition

Urokaninsäure, ein weißer Feststoff mit der Summenformel C6H6N2O2, ist eine organische chemische Substanz, die Bestandteil des menschlichen Schweißes ist.

Urocaninsäure ist ein Abbauprodukt des Histidins. Die Substanz ist photoprotektiv und spielt eine bedeutsame  Rolle beim Schutz der Haut vor UVB-Strahlung. Urocaninsäure tritt in der Haut zunächst als trans-Urocaninsäure auf und wird bei Bestrahlung mit UVB-Licht teilweise in sein cis-Isomer umgewandelt (Landeck L et al. 2016)

Anwendungsgebiet/Verwendung

Kosmetik: Urocanisäure wird in kosmetischen Rezepturen als Lichtschutzmittel eingesetzt. Sie wirkt als UVB-Filter (Mollet M et al. 2017).

Medizin: In kleineren Studien konnte bei Patienten mit atopischer Dermatitis mit einer 5% Urocaninsäure-Creme eine Verbesserung der Hautinflammation erzielt werden sowie eine Verbesserung des Transepidermalen Wasserverlustes –TEWL (Peltonen JM et al. 2014)
