MEA ist das Akronym für Monoethanolamid. PPG steht für „Polypropylenglycole“, flüssige Polyglycole mit hoher Viskosität. Das zugehörige Monomer ist das Propylenglycol (1,2-Propandiol). Als Laureth(e) werden die Polyoxyethylenether des Laurylalkohols bezeichnet (vergleichsweise s.: Stearethe als Polyoxyethylenether des Stearylalkohols u.a.). Polyalkylenglycolether sind nichtionische Tenside, deren lipophiler Teil aus Fettalkoholen (z.B. Laurylalkohol, Palmitinalkohol, Stearylalkohole u.a.) besteht. Den hydrophilen Teil bilden kurzkettige Polyethylenglycole (Polyoxyethylene).
