2-Ethyl-l-hexanol (EH) is a colourless liquid with a slightly sweetish odour. It is used as an intermediate product in the production of plasticizers (e.g. diethylhexyl phthalates, diethylhexyl succinates, diethylhexyl acrylate), lubricant components and surface treatment agents. It is also used as a solvent in paint varnishes, inks, rubbers and dry cleaning. 2-ethylhexyl alcohol is also used as a flavouring agent in food and cosmetics.
